Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent serves as spokesperson for the Medical Center, and as such is a point of contact for local and national media; is the liaison for veterans' service organizations, congressional staffs, community groups, professional organizations, etc. Responsible for preparing or directing the preparation of all news releases, media advisories, public service announcements, and feature articles about the medical facility and its programs and services. Provide technical consultation in the preparation of public relations and marketing materials and publications. Evaluate the effectiveness of the public affairs program and makes changes as necessary to maintain or enhance the public image of JHQVAMC and media exposure of programs and activities. Develop speeches for the Director and other executive team members for special events and programs. Develop employee newsletters, JHQVAMC's annual report and all other marketing materials. Manage websites, including social media websites (e.g., Facebook and Twitter). Work Schedule:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience serving as a spokesperson conducting media interviews, coordinating events, crisis communications, and responding to Congressional Inquiries; identifying communication needs and developing informational materials to inform internal and external stakeholders of policies, programs, services and activities; Skill in written and oral communication, analysis, and interpersonal relations is necessary. Providing authoritative guidance and advise to top management officials or stakeholders on the possible public and media reactions to proposed public affairs policy statement or agency actions; experience independently carrying out broad public affairs activities. Work is usually performed sitting at a desk, in news conferences, briefings, meetings, etc.; or riding in an automobile or public transportation. There may be occasional brief visits to industrial or construction sites, national parks or forests,military equipment test sites, etc.; however, no special physical demands are involved in performing the work. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of office settings or commercial vehicles such as planes, trains, buses or automobiles. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
