Registered Nurse - Clinical Assessor
The RN Clinical Assessor will function in support of caregivers, Veterans and family members throughout the medical center and in community settings. The RN Clinical Assessor will conduct initial and annual home visits to Family Caregivers approved in the program and will conduct the Veteran Functional Assessment Instrument (VFAI) and other assessments as needed via phone and clinical video telehealth and in person. The RN Clinical Assessor is responsible for developing and establishing linkages and collaborate on VA caregiver support efforts with community healthcare and social service agencies. The RN Clinical Assessor possesses advanced knowledge and understanding of the services and benefits available for caregivers from both federal, state and private sector resources. The RN Clinical Assessor demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious, deliberate planning. Self-directed in goal setting for managing complex patient situations. The RN Clinical Assessor will report to the Nurse Manager and Chief Nurse who is responsible to the assigned rating and approving supervisors and is accountable to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services. The individual will be responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. The individual will assist in directing the provision of nursing education/orientation/competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Pay schedule:

In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. The population of male and female Veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. James H. Quillen VA Medical Center (JHQVAMC) is an interdisciplinary teaching facility, serving medical, surgical, and oncology patients. There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical co-morbidities. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, sitting, and computer usage. Transferring patients and objects may be required. May be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. May occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. With this position must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
