Registered Nurse (SOPC Urology)

The staff nurse manages clinically complex patients and situations related to patient care assignments, as well as clinical and administrative processes effecting the unit/work/group/area. He/she is able to function independently, is self-directed in clinical practice and career development, and is actively involved in the functions and activities on the unit/work/group/area. It is expected the nurse provides safe, effective, quality care to patients and possesses the management skills necessary to function as charge nurse. This nurse is responsible for guiding, directing, and appraising the performance of support staff and providing education for support staff, students, and new employees. The RN uses the nursing process to implement patient care for self and others. He/she models the interdisciplinary team approach to patient care and involves others in this process. He/she provides education to patient, families and significant others; administers medications and treatment; participates in the quality improvement process; and is attuned to the needs of adult and geriatric patients. The nurse possesses expertise of assigned surgical clinics, clinic flow and those factors that can impede flow. They implement measures/procedures that directly impact and improve flow. They will cover all surgical clinics as assigned and maintain all required procedural and core competencies. They possess the ability to assist each patient from check-in to check-out and other responsibilities as assigned. The nurse actively seeks additional assignments that are geared toward improvement in the clinic areas. The nurse has mastered their clinical skills and competencies. They will perform as a preceptor/mentor for other staff as assigned. The RN is responsible for practicing in accordance with and adhering to regulations such as the Nurse Practice Act, VHA policies and procedures, and those of outside accrediting bodies. This nurse demonstrates dedication to the nursing profession and represents nursing in the community and professional activities. Work Schedule:
Primarily Administrative, Monday through Friday (Day Shift), with flexibility to provide infrequent coverage for evenings/weekends in unusual circumstances as necessary for patient care needs. Pay Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Experience:
1. BSN preferred 2. Experience with surgery clinic patients, including intravesicular chemotherapy, procedural experience such as cystos, prostate biopsies, and skin lesion procedures. 3. Evidence of excellent collaborative relationships with physicians and support services. 11. Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. 12. Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. The population of male and female veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. Mountain Home VA Healthcare System (MHVAHCS) is an major interdisciplinary teaching facility, serving medical, surgical, and oncologic inpatients and outpatients. There is a large psychiatric population, with visits to the Emergency Department and admissions for psychiatric and/or medical co-morbidities. his position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
