Transportation Assistant

NOTE:
This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 2 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration. Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition. This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-06. At the GS-05 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-06. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following Manages administrative functions relative to beneficiary travel, which is greater than One million dollars annually. This includes maintains all accounting records, fund control points of various sub-accounts, unauthorized ambulance bills, special modes of travel for inter-facility transfer, emergency transportation, non-emergent travel, and taxi. Monitors accounts, estimated obligations and actual expenditures, including funds use by outpatient satellite clinic(s), making determinations of fund control point needs and account adjustments. Projects quarterly expenditures and maintains accurate accounting records to support expenditures and projections. Prepares vouchers for beneficiaries claiming reimbursement of travel experience based on rates, current mileage, allowances (e.g., ferry, bridge, road/tunnel tolls). Determines initial eligibility for travel reimbursement. Authorizes and documents domestic travel arrangements; arranges for transportation (or other actions in the movement of passengers); makes travel arrangements; secures reservations; computes and verifies transportation, mileage and subsistence costs related to travel claims. Receives and vouchering for unauthorized claims for ambulance transportation. Performs other clerical duties, such as:
collects data for preparation of reports; type's beneficiary travel correspondence; prepares correspondence for patients of eligibility; utilizes effective communications, both in-person and in-writing, with staff, patients, and outside sources. Provides training and education to other personnel; may serve as timekeeper; and keeps supervisor informed of backlogs and circumstances which may have a negative effect on the medical center or control points. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
To be creditable requires one year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes applying transportation regulations and practices to perform a wide variety of administrative support; coordinating travel arrangements; maintaining records, utilizing databases, reconciling records and generating reports; investigating/resolving issues and taking corrective actions; and communicating effectively with a wide variety of individuals. NOTE:
Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month & year starting and ending dates AND hours worked per week. -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
